Moving and Storage Tips

Moving is just not a fun thing to do for anyone. It maybe fun to unpack and set up a new home but the idea of moving can sometimes just seem overwhelming. There are however many things you can do to ease that stress and make the process go as smoothly as possible.

1. Make sure you have a plan in place

If you haven't begun to pack yet, consider starting early and packing up belongings you know you will not need until you get into your new home. This might be out of season clothing, memorabilia, collections, photo albums and kitchen items that are seasonal. All these items can be packed away first and give you more breathing room for  when the big packing comes.

2. Start on one room at a time.

Don't feel overwhelmed by packing up the whole house at once. Start with the room you use the least and get it in good clean order first. This is also a good time to clean each room thoroughly as you pack.

3. Label every box with the room and items

Many boxes will have various items in them and it's ok to write as much as you want on the box. This helps sort through items later and you don't have to wonder which box you put something in.

4. Use your items as packing material.

Don't spend a fortune on bubble wrap and packing peanuts. Simply use your bedding, blankets, clothes and towels to wrap fragile items. This is a great way to pack two things at once and then you won't have excess to throw away when your done.

5. Look for packing boxes online for free.

Many times people that have moved want to give away their packing boxes instead of bother recycling them or simply throwing them away. You may be able to find exactly what your looking for and when you are done putting everything away this is a great way to get rid of your boxes to the next mover. Use sites such as back page, craigslist or local newspapers.
